Agra Fort which is also known as Lal Quila (Red Fort) is located near to one of the seven wonders of the world i.e. Taj Mahal. The construction of this fort was initiated by Mughal Emperor Akbar while additions to the existing structure were made by his grandson Shah Jahan. The fort served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors till 1638.
The fort has been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1984.
